Rak Sunakh Tyra
Goes To Bran
TYRA · 19.10.2020 · BLACK
She meets people with openness and complete ease. She originally came to us with the idea of adding a black female to our breeding programme, and from a health perspective she initially brought very good prerequisites.
In August 2021, despite being vaccinated, Tyra became seriously ill with parvovirus. She spent 16 days in the veterinary clinic, lost around eight kilograms and eventually made a full recovery. That illness alone would not have been a reason for us to exclude her from breeding.
In 2022, however, she experienced her first seizure after a sports session. Further seizures followed.
Despite extensive diagnostics, no definitive cause could be identified. Tyra is now on medication and well controlled. To this day, it cannot be conclusively determined whether she has classical epilepsy.
For our breeding programme, however, the decision was clear.
A dog that experiences seizures will not be bred by us – regardless of whether the underlying cause can ultimately be identified. When medical questions remain unanswered, there is even less reason for us to take a potential risk with the next generation.
Blood and DNA from Tyra have been stored so that future research or diagnostic possibilities may one day provide further answers. Particularly in the Thai Ridgeback, reliable data is still limited in many areas of health.
Fortunately, Tyra herself could not care less about any of this. She remains what she has always been above all else: an exceptionally friendly female and a natural part of our family.
Tested. Transparent.
Considered as a whole.
Part of our pack.
